Hi, I’m Phoebe — the home cook, recipe tester, and kitchen-gadget enthusiast behind Crisp Table.
My Story
My cooking journey started the way many great things do: trying to impress someone I loved. What began as simple two-person dinners for my then-boyfriend (now husband) slowly grew into a genuine obsession with everything that happens in a kitchen.
I’m the kind of person who walks into a kitchen supply store “just to look” and walks out with a new Dutch oven. My kitchen counters are a rotating lineup of air fryers, bread machines, stand mixers, and more pots and pans than any reasonable person needs — and I love every single one of them.
Over the years, my cooking evolved alongside my family:
- The early days: Quick two-person meals, weeknight dinners that could go from fridge to table in 30 minutes, and a lot of trial-and-error learning.
- The baby years: Homemade baby food, toddler snacks, and my first deep dive into baking — because apparently, a one-year-old’s birthday cake demands three test runs.
- Now: Cooking for a family of four plus sharing dishes with my parents, who are always happy to be my taste testers. Every new recipe gets the family seal of approval before it makes it onto this site.
Why I Started Crisp Table
There are millions of recipe websites out there. I know — I’ve cooked from hundreds of them. But too many recipes are either:
- Vague (“cook until done” — what does that even mean?)
- Untested (the photos look great but the recipe fails in real life)
- Overly complicated (I don’t need to brine chicken for 48 hours on a Tuesday)
I wanted to build the kind of recipe site I wish existed: clear instructions, honest timing, tested results, and zero pretension.
My Testing Process
Every recipe on Crisp Table goes through a real testing process in my actual kitchen:
- First cook: Follow the recipe as written, take notes on what works and what doesn’t.
- Second cook: Fix the issues, adjust timing and seasoning, test again.
- Third cook (minimum): Final verification — if my family eats it without complaint, it’s ready to publish.
I’m not a classically trained chef. I don’t pretend to be. What I am is a meticulous home cook who tests everything before sharing it, because I know how frustrating it is to spend time and money on a recipe that doesn’t work.
What You’ll Find Here
Crisp Table focuses on four categories where I have the most hands-on experience:
- Air Fryer Recipes — The appliance that changed my weeknight cooking forever
- Quick Meals — 30-minute dinners for busy families
- Low Sodium Recipes — Healthier cooking without sacrificing flavor
- Bread Machine Recipes — Because fresh bread should be easy
